Hey Dos Rios,

l want to take a moment to reach out to all members, new and old with some information about Dos Rios and how I run our events and maybe answer some frequently asked questions.  I will hit each of these topics as bullet points, in no particular order:

  • This link will take you to our DOS RIOS EVENT PORTAL:   https://dosriosgc.golfgenius.com/ggid/DRGC    Go to this portal and click on the Event Schedule and you can see all the booked events any given year as well as prior years events.  As new events are added, they will be added to this portal.  You can sign up for any open event from that page.  You can also see the results of past events.   You can also sign up for any one individual event at that individual event portal  (for example the TPC Event Portal) - which you can get to from the Registration Links I send you.  The advantage of using the  EVENT PORTAL is that you can see the entire year of events at one place.

  • I do post ALL scores from our events so you do NOT need to post the scores.  They are posted as Competition scores.

  • If you ever post an incorrect score and it needs to be edited or you have a score that was posted twice, email me with correction and I will get it taken care of.

  • The vast majority of our events are gross/net events with payouts being equal to both gross and net games.  We typically play 2 to 3 different betting formats in each event.   We run a skins game at most events.  We also typically have either a Team Event or an Individual event or both Team and Individual games.

  • When we play, we play by the rules of golf unless they are modified by local course rules or specific Dos Rios rules.   For example we have a local Dos Rios rule in most events (not all) that you pick up on a 9.

  • We play the ball down unless we are using a lift, clean and place format due to wet conditions.  No  improving of your lies during events.

  • The only format in which gimmes are allowed is Match Play and that is only if your opponent concedes the putt.  Please protect the field and putt the ball out.

  • When we do 2, 3 or 4 man team games, remember if you do not have a partner, just sign up anyway if you want to play and I will try to find you a partner OR we will let one player be a partner for two other players –we will make it work.

  • Accurate handicaps are always an issue.  If there are complaints about golfers handicaps, the handicap committee can review all pertinent details and adjust a players handicap.  For those of you who love the rules – see Rule 7.1 regarding the handicap committees authorizations.   The goal is for every player to have an accurate handicap going into any event and then let the chips fall where they may.
  •

You will note on event portals, there is a handicap analysis program.  If you want to see the strokes you or another player gets, you can use that program.  Yell if you have questions about how to use it.

  • If you believe that a given golfer is sandbagging, please call it to  my attention and the handicap committee will look into it.  Most times it is perception but there are instances in which we have adjusted handicaps due to lack of posting of scores and/or consistent performance at tournaments way under a given handicap.  If you don’t let me know, the committee cannot look into it.

  • I design the payouts for each one (1) day event so that if you play good (below your handicap) you typically win more than your entry fee and if you play close to or at your handicap you might win your entry fee back or close to it.  If you have a really good hole(s) you likely will win some skins money even if you don’t play to your handicap for the round.    The three (3)  day events have more money in them to be won but still not a ton more and I design the payouts the same way – where more people are getting paid some money instead of fewer people winning a lot of money.

  • If you want to play for a lot of $$ at our events, you will find lots of takers for side bets.  Some will play gross and others will only play net, but if you are looking for side bets and you don’t know anyone who will take them, see me and I can direct you to players who love side action.  That is where you can make (or lose) a lot more $$ at our events.

  • If anyone is going on a golf trip and wants their group to have live scoring available or if you have a local group that would like to use live scoring talk to me about it and if I can help, I will.

  • With your Dos Rios membership you are able to maintain your GHIN number and handicap through the World Handicap System (WHS) and are able to use your Dos Rios membership to participate in USGA and TGA events without paying those organizations additional membership fees to be eligible to play.

  • You will receive regular emails from Dos Rios on Golf Rules, events from the golf world and local golf events.  From time to time you will also get emails with accomplishments and Kudos about local members.

  •  If you have questions on handicapping or golf rules, or you have mis-posted a score or need to add scores, reach out to me and I will see what I can do to help.

  • Just a reminder for those who are members of two or more clubs,  your GHIN number is the same at every club you belong to and when scores are posted, they all go to the same GHIN number and your handicap will be the same at each club.  It is against USGA rules to have more than one handicap.
